Starting to delve into appliqué

I decided recently that i wanted to start working with more freehand appliqué, in conjunction with my embroideries, for DreamScapes. I finished one up yesterday and sent it off this morning. Simple appliqué work on this one, a free hand tree, but it was a lot of fun. There are lots of little embroidered details that are hard to see in the photo - there are acorns and leaves scattered across the front around the squirrel and the rabbit, leaves falling from the tree on back, the black capped chickadee is sitting in a free hand machine stitched nest. It is also a "new" dye technique a combination of LWI (front 2/3)and dip dye (back 1/3). I will be doing a lot more work like this - I have another tree/woodland DreamScape in the works for another custom, as well as a fairy DreamScape with a moonlight scene and a tree branch stretching across the back of the diaper with the fairies sitting on it. I can't wait to get to those!
