My favourite children's story is "The Gruffalo". For those who don't know that story: the mouse walks through the woods and is invited for a meal by an owl, a fox and a snake - the mouse would be the food, of course. But he declines, saying he has lunch plans with the Gruffalo, a big bad monster he made up. But then he actually runs into the Gruffalo. Mouse is very scared as he realises the Gruffalo really exists so the mouse tells the Gruffalo that he is feared in all of the woods and he will prove it to the Gruffalo. He walks back the way he came and when the snake, the fox and the owl respectively see the Gruffalo they run away in fear. The Gruffalo thinks that they run away from the mouse instead of the Gruffalo and is very impressed with how scary the mouse is. When the mouse tells the Gruffalo that he feels like eating Gruffalo, the Gruffalo runs away. It's a beautiful book that has been made into a really nice movie as well. I'm not the best at story re-telling but I hope you got the essence of the story. That is a tough choice! I guess 'The Giving Tree'. I can't adequately put into words why. I hope I can be such an example to my children.

As I loved it as a child, I've recently read 'The Wind in the Willows' to my daughter. I love all the characters and can relate them to famiky members! I remember having it read to me... my favourite bit us when Mole returns hme at Christmas and the young mice turn up carol singing.

When I was younger I used to always pull this book of Fairy Tales by Dulac and for some crazy reason I was obsessed with Bluebeard. I know, I know. But fairy tales are big in my house with my daughter and I.
